Uttarakhand previously famous as Uttaranchal, is a state which is situated in North India. It is also well-known as Devbhumi (Land of the Gods) owing to presence of various Hindu shrines and pilgrimage hubs. The State is famous for magnificence of the Himalayas, the Terai and the Bhabhar. Uttarakhand is divided into 2 parts, Kumaon and Garhwal. Capital city of the state is Dehradun (biggest city of the area). Uttarakhand is the second best growing state of India. The residents of Uttarakhand are commonly known as Uttarakhandi, or more popularly either Kumaoni or Garhwali depending on their inhabitant area.

CULTURE OF UTTARAKHAND
Dances of Uttarakhand are linked with life of people and display many human feelings. Some of the popular dances of the state are Langvir Nritya, Barada Nati, Chholiya, Jhumaila, Chauphula, Jhora-Chanchri, Hurka Baul etc. Music is also an important part of the culture of Uttarakhand. Some of the famous folk songs of the state are Chhopati, Basanti, Mangal and Khuded. Bedu Pako is a famous folk song of the state which is famous all over the world and is very popular in Uttarakhand. Music is also used as a means for worshipping of God. Some of the popular crafts of the state are statues of wood, elaborately carved patterns of floral designs, carpets, scarves, handmade jewellery of gold, basketry of Garhwal, shawls of wool, idols, and geometrical patterns also ornament the windows, ceilings, doors, and walls of houses in rural areas. Shrines and Dwellings are decorated with amazing wall paintings. Pahari painting is very popular in the state.
