Agra is situated on the banks of Yamuna River in the Indian State of UP. Agra is among the most crowded cities of UP and the 19th most populated cities in India. It is about 205 kms from New Delhi. Agra is a one of the most prominent tourist spot because of its many wonderful monuments of ancient times, specially Agra Fort, Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri, these all are included in the World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. Agra is included in the Golden Triangle tourist path, along with Jaipur and Delhi. It is also well known as the City of Taj.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OF AGRA

  • Taj Mahal
    Taj Mahal is among the Seven Wonders of the world and a World Heritage Site. Taj Mahal is constructed by Shah Jahan in the remembrance of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction of this beautiful place completed in the year 1653 in White Marble. Taj Mahal was built on the platform of marble. The interiors are ornamented with fine inlay work, featuring semi-valuable rocks. The Taj Mahal is among the prominent tourist spot of Agra and very famous monument of world, it is very popular among both domestic and international tourists.
     
  • Agra Fort
    Agra Fort also Red Fort, which is also a World Heritage Sites was built by Emperor Akbar in 1565. Important structures of the fort comprises Jahangirs Palace, Musamman Burj, Moti Masjid, Diwan e Aam and Diwan e Khas, Khas Mahal and Shish Mahal. The fort is curved shaped, flattened on the east with an extensive straight wall in front of the river. The fort is a unique example of Mughal structural design, displaying how the North Indian approach of fort structure vary with that of South.
     
  • Fatehpur Sikri
    Fatehpur Sikri also a World Heritage Site of Agra is constructed by Akbar who is a Mughal Emperor, is almost 32 kms from Agra. The site exhibits various structures of large historical significance and is also very famous among tourists. At Fatehpur Sikri the lofty gateway called Buland Darwaza was constructed by Akbar in 1601 CE. It is built of red and burnish sandstone, ornamented by statues and white and black strips of marble. Buland Darwaza is about 178 feet in height and 114 feet in width. Buland Darwaza is constructed by Akbar to admire his success over Gujarat. Buland Darwaza can be reached by following 52 steps. A message on the middle face of Buland Darwaza exhibits Akbars spiritual open mindedness, it is simply a message from Jesus in which he is giving indications to his devotees that not to believe that this world is their home on permanent basis.
     
  • Itimad Ud Daulah
    The tomb of Itimad Ud Daulah was constructed by Nur Jahan for her father named Mirza Ghiyas Beg who is the CM of Jahangir the emperor. Design of garden of this place and use of marble of white colour, latticework and inlay patterns foretell many constituents of Taj Mahal. The tomb is situated on the left bank of Yamuna river, it is built in a huge cruciform garden, having water courses and walking space. Rajasthani White Marble is used in the walls of the tomb which are fully covered with valuable stones. Many of Nur Jahans relatives are buried inside the tomb. The only uneven part of the whole building are the graves of her mother and father, which have been placed alongside, a structure simulated in the Taj Mahal.
     
  • Akbars Tomb, Sikandra
    Sikandra, the last relaxing site of Akbar the Great, is on the Delhi Agra Highway, it is situated about 12 kms from the Agra Fort. Tomb of Akbar reveals the whole personality of Akbar. The planning of the tomb is done by Akbar himself and he also selects the place for this on his own. Construction of this tomb is finished in the year 1613 by Jahangir son of Akbar the Great. Akbar’s Fort is very huge and magnificently engraved tomb which is situated in the middle of a luxuriant garden inside which there are rabbits, langurs and deers.
     
  • Ram Bagh
    Foundation Stone of Ram Bagh was laid in the year 1528 by Emperor Babar. It is one of the ancient garden of Mughals in India which is situated on the bank of Yamuna. It is situated about 3 kms from Taj Mahal. The visiting areas in this garden are planned in such a way so that the wind from the Yamuna, merged with the greenery, keeps them cool even throughout the peak of summer. On Ram Bagh to Tundla road near Etmadpur, there is a famous Yoga Ashram of Yogeshwar Devi Dayal Ji Mahadev, Yogeshwar Mulakhraj Ji Maharaja & Mahaprabhu Ramlal ji Maharaja. Lot of followers and devotees visit this religious site.
     
  • Mariams Tomb
    Mariams Tomb, is the mausoleum of Mariam, the wife of Akbar The Great. The mausoleum is inside the complex of Christian disciple civilization.
     
  • Sur Sarovar
    Also called Keetham Lake is situated almost 8 kms from the tomb of Akbarin in Agra, inside the Surdas Reserved jungle. The lake has a remarkable range of water birds and marine life.
     
  • Jama Masjid
    The Jama Masjid constructed in the year 1648 is a big mosque accredited to Shah Jahans daughter, Princess Jahanara Begum, it is popular for its remarkable dome and deficiency of minarets.
     
  • Chini ka Rauza
    Chini Ka Rauza is famous for its Persian prejudiced dome of blue glassy tiles, the Chini ka Rauza is devoted to the PM of Shah Jahan, Allama Afzal Khal Mulla Shukrullah of Shiraz.
     
  • Mughal Heritage Walk
    Mughal Heritage Walk is a 1 kms loop which joins the agricultural grounds with the Rajasthani culture, river bank linked with the old village of Kuchhpura, the Heritage formation of Humanyun Mosque, Gyarah Sidi, Mughal aqueduct system and Mehtab Bagh.
     
  • Mehtab Bagh
    Mehtab Bagh also called Moonlight Garden, is located on the contrary bank of the Yamuna River from Taj Mahal.
     
  • Gurudwara Guru ka Taal
    Guru ka Tal Gurdwara is a sacred site of adoration for the Sikhs. It is believed that from the 10 Gurus of Sikhs, 4 Gurus have visited this place. The Gurdwara is very popular among tourists. This Gurdwara has spiritual and Historical significance. It is situated on NH 2 (Delhi Agra).
     
  • Mankameshwar Temple
    The Shrine of Mankameshwar is one of oldest shrine which is devoted to Lord Shiva, it is situated on the four parts of Agra. It is located near the Jama Masjid and is about 3 kms from the Taj Mahal. Being located in the old city, the temple is enclosed with markets, many of which are of the time of Mughals.
