TOP THINGS TO DO IN SINGAPORE

1) Day out at Singapore Zoo
Singapore Zoo is one of the best zoo of the world. Singapore Zoo is magnificently designed, with globe-spanning wildlife wandering large, natural habitat-like areas. The Great Rift vale (with a cliff-flowing waterfall) is dwelling to Nubian ibexes, mongooses and baboons, while in the Fragile Forest biodome you can climb up to the forest sheltering to check out two-toed sloths and to spot flying foxes and lemurs. Denizens of the Frozen Tundra comprise wolverines, raccoons, , and polar bears while Primate Kingdom is where you’ll spot all types of monkeys – from the colobus to the crested macaque – and get a good look at the zoo’s orangutans during the daily 11 am and 3:30 pm feeding sessions. Head for Cat Country and Wild Africa to see cheetahs, giraffes, lions, zebras, and leopards to the Forest Lodge to spot the rare white tiger. The Rainforest Kidzworld is great for younger kids, with horse rides and a wet play zone with waterslides.

2) Take a Night Safari
Next door to Singapore Zoo, this wildlife park is only open in the evenings (7:30 pm-midnight). It’s a magnificently strange experience – traveling the footpaths and bridges of the aromatic nighttime jungle and considering the 120 species of nocturnal creatures close up: tigers, fishing cats etc. Electric trams run the perimeter, stopping in several places; it’s worth taking one for the guided tour that’s an admirable introduction to the park. Along the way you may spot some of the antelopes that wander free outside the other animal fields. The 20-minute Creatures of the Night show, held 3-4 times every night, is a big hit with kids, and one of the highlights of the Night Safari is a leisurely walk through the fruit bat field, where you may find yourself face to face with a huge fruitbat, hanging upside down inches from your face and tucking into a chunk of fruit. No flash photography is permitted in the park.

3) Wander around Gardens by the Bay
Innovative botanical gardens with biodomes and Supertrees. Across a pedestrian path from the Marina is one of the most amazing green spaces of Singapore. huge biodomes rise out of the greenery, housing over 800 species of plants from diverse climate regions. There’s huge cacti in the Desert arena, a waterfall flows from a 35 m mountain in the Cloud Forest Dome, while the Flower arena recreates a Mediterranean climate, complete with a prehistoric olive grove. Dotted around the Gardens are different unusual statuettes, including Planet by Mark Quinn – a huge sleeping baby that seems to float in mid-air. Rising above the gardens are 18 Supertrees that look like something out of Avatar, mostly when they’re lit up as part of the Garden Rhapsody sound-and-light stunning every night (7:45-8:45 pm). You can take the OCBC Skyway walk, 22m above the Gardens, that joins 6 of the Supertrees.

HOW TO REACH SINGAPORE?

  • By Rail
Singapore is linked to Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Malaysia by rail with a route to Bangkok.

  • By Road
Going from India to Singapore by road is not impossible but will take more time. From India, one has to take the India-Myanmar Friendship road. Then proceed through Thailand via Bangkok to Malaysia. From Malaysia, one can either rent a car or bus to Singapore. Car renting has the advantage of not going through traditions or immigration. There are specially approved taxis from Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru, the borderline area between Malay land and Singapore. There are state bus services running to and fro the causeway link that links downtown Johor Bahru with Singapore. But traveling by bus has the disadvantage of waiting in line for passport checking and traditions just like airports. Many people wish to have the experience of traveling from country to country by car or by bus, enjoying the days of the journey. It is really a different kind of experience if one is willing to make an effort. But for the normal tourists who simply want to reach Singapore, railway or roadway is not at all a very wise choice to go with.

  • By Air
Changi Airport is one of the best-connected airport of Singapore and is the main centre for international aviation. Chennai to Singapore flights is the cheapest and easiest to go there due to the proximity of the two places.
